While on the subject of paint....... whats the deal with sheet metal prep? My H has pitted sheet metal I have sandblasted to old primer . Do I fill the pits or leave them?

Question about paint prep. Are the pits in the sheet metal desireable or not? I kind of like the evidence of age but want to do it right.
