Size Of Rotor

is there a difference in the size of the rotor and cap between a distibutor and a mag?
I am working on a guys H and the rotor seems to be hitting the cotacts on the cap as it turns, I can watch the cap move at each time the rotor hits a contact. I think he has some wrong parts on it.
